Nine Hunter workers are amongst the 196 positions being axed from TAFE NSW just five days before Christmas.
Six positions will be lost from the Newcastle site while three positions will go from Tighes Hill on 20 December, as the Liberal-National Government continues to decimate TAFE.
Over the last eight years, the Liberal-National Government has systematically destroyed TAFE by slashing 6,000 jobs and stood idly by as enrolments have declined by over 175,000.
Across the state the slashed positions include IT Support Officers, Customer Support Technicians and Human Resources personnel. The latest local job losses are:

Labor Shadow Minister Rural and Regional Jobs and Member for Swansea Yasmin Catley has called on the Government to making savage cuts to TAFE.
“Sacking people only days before Christmas is heartless,” Ms Catley said.
“And to do it at a time when people desperately need skills to compete in our workforce, we’re facing a national skills shortage with the rate of youth unemployment rising, positive investments into TAFE is crucial.”
Member for Newcastle Tim Crakanthorp said that the continual cuts to TAFE are running the institution into the ground.
“This is death by a 1000 cuts,” he said.
“TAFE was once a fantastic place to study and work, but very soon there won’t be anything left.
“Not only is the Government dragging TAFE through the dirt, the way the hardworking staff are being treated is disgusting.”
