Labor are today holding a Live Music Roundtable in Newcastle to address issues facing both artists and venue operators in the city.
State Member for Newcastle, Tim Crakanthorp is hosting the event and is joined by Member of the Legislative Council, John Graham, Federal Member for Newcastle, Sharon Claydon and Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes. It will be attended by artists, venue operators and government representatives.
The Roundtable was initiated some months ago in State Parliament, following a discussion between Mr Crakanthorp and Mr Graham, who had run a similar Roundtable in the Blue Mountains.
Mr Crakanthorp said the issue was not unique to Newcastle and was something that had come to the attention of Labor across the state.
Mr Crakanthorp said that the main aim for the Roundtable was to start the discussion between artists, venue operators and government around ways the local music industry and Labor, in particular, can work together to strengthen the future of the industry in Newcastle.
Labor plans to develop policies and create opportunities at the Roundtable to allow Newcastle’s live music scene to thrive and grow.
