State Member for Newcastle, Tim Crakanthorp has today officially opened a new set of cricket nets at the Merewether District Cricket Club’s Townson Oval.
The nets have been named in honour of 96 year old life Member, Mr Bert Mullen, who has been a member of the club for almost 70 years.
Mr Mullen has held multiple roles on Club’s committee and dedicated his life to its success.
The Club has been working for many years to secure funding to upgrade the nets and experienced many hurdles along the way.
The project was made possible by a $15,000 grant presented by Mr Crakanthorp through the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership program.
The grant provided by Mr Crakanthorp allowed the Club to deliver the upgraded facilities worth $45,000.
The Community Building Partnership program investing in infrastructure projects that deliver positive social, environmental and recreational outcomes, while promoting community participation, inclusion and cohesion.
Mr Crakanthorp will shortly announce the successful recipients for the 2018 Community Building Partnerships round.
